Clockwerk

By the time he gathered his composure the crow had picked up the necklace and was flying away with it. "Hey! Get back here, you ruffian! Unhand--er... Unbeak my prize! It's mine I tell you!" The crazed wolf took off after the bird but of course he began to fall behind. The crow didn't have to slosh through thick water on paws not suited to such a task. Needless to say he lost the crow and was left standing on a patch of land in the middle of an area with water that was too deep for him to wade through.
Slosh. Slosh. Came the sound of wading paws in the thick, swampy water. A black-ish wolf was making his way through the swampy stew, he face showed that he was concerned but if one could view inside of his strange mind they'd see that it wasn't the swampy water that he was worried about. It was something altogether different and if anyone else could be informed of what was in his brain they still wouldn't be understanding. Clockwerk's brain was probably one of the most strangest working things in all the land.
Inside of his mad mind he was concerned about getting back to his shop. There was no telling what was going on while he was away, anything could happen! Therefore he had to be on a tight schedule so that he could leave but be back in a timely manner. Here's how he'd worked it out in his head: he would leave the shop in one day and be halfway to the marshlands beginning on the second, the third day (which was what it was now) he was here at the marshlands and he would want to find an item to take back with him, the fourth day he'd begin his travel back, and by the end of the fifth he'd be back home. Right now it was midday and he was beginning to get discouraged. What if he didn't find an item of interest? Chaos would ensue! Worlds would crumble! He'd break out in those itchy hives! His whole trip would be ruined! "Tick-tock..."
Doggedly he continued on his way in the filthy water. His black fur was easily dirtied and the fur on his head and spine was starting to spike up from where his hasty pace had sent the mix splashing up. Quite abruptly he stopped and looked to one side where a stunted bush sprang up from a bank. "I say there, good fellow, do you know of any interesting artifacts around here? Any enterfunulating thingamabobs, hmmm?" He cocked his head to one side and perked his head up in a goofy fashion at the bush as if expecting an answer. Any other creature wouldn't have gotten an answer --or questioned the bush in the first place-- but Clockwerk did. He gave an elegant head bob to the bush in thanks and continued on his merry way.
His head bobbed side-to-side in time with a tune that was only audible to him. Finally, more by luck than anything he imagined that he heard from the bush, he found an object of interest. Shining from a tree roots on one of the banks was some sort of item. Clockwerk couldn't tell what it was from how far away he was but rapidly he closed the distance. He hauled himself out of the putrid water without even trying to clean the stuff from him. Instead he allowed himself to be completely fascinated by what looked like a shiny, diamond heart on a silver chain. He was about to pick the thing up with his mouth but suddenly a large black bird launched itself at his face.
KAW! KAW! KAW! Screeched the angry crow. The black wolf was so startled that he fell backwards into the swampy water with a large splash. "Aaauugh!"
Why didn't he try swimming further? Not because of the dangers that could be lurking in the deeper water but because of the fact that he was getting tired. Now the sun had sunk even lower and he was behind on his schedule. "Tick-tock..." His voice was low and dejected but not defeated yet.
